My heartfelt thanks and much love to all the great folks I met at CONvergence this year – I had a great time handing out books, talking about my writing, and making new friends. You guys are amazing and awesome, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all again there next year!
Hi everyone! After some technical issues, ageoftheunifier.com is back, and with luck getting some of those long-promised updates soon! Also, I (yes, that’s me, Nik) will be attending CONvergence 2012 in Minneapolis this coming weekend, signing and handing out promo copies of Winter of the Snowfox, and generally talking up Age of the Unifier – if you happen to be there, be sure to find me to hang out and get your AotU fix (and get your free copy of the book, if you don’t have it yet – shame on you!).
I’ve updated the About the Author page to be a bit more informative, and intend sometime in the near future to add some information about the influences on my work. My apologies for the slow rate of updates, but the time I spend working on the website tends to come out of the time I have to spend working on the second book, and based on what I’ve been hearing from those of you I hear from, you’re all more interested in seeing A Prayer For War than you are in finding out what books I read, movies I watch, and music I listen to. On that front, I’m happy to say that work on the book has been going well of late, and while there’s still quite a way to go until it will be ready, it’s shaping up to be a richer and more complex story even than I had anticipated going in. Rest assured, this one will be worth the wait.
As many of you may know, and almost all will have probably learned today, there are a pair of bill making their way through the U.S. House and Senate, SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act). Now, as a writer, I support protection for copyrights and intellectual property, and rely on such protections for my work. That said, I find several of the provisions in these Acts to be overly punitive and stifiling of speech on the internet. Other portions have been pointed out to be problematic from a technical perspective to the way the internet operates. Therefore, while I will not be blacking out ageoftheunifier.com as so many other sites are doing, I do lend my voice to theirs in opposing these ill-conceived bills, and encourage my fans to contact their legislators and urge them to vote against SOPA and PIPA.
Changes coming to the website, including a news feed on the front page. The old front page series teaser can now be found at About the Series. More news to come soon!
Volume Two: A Prayer For War is in the works, check back for progress updates and previews!
