As many of you may know, and almost all will have probably learned today, there are a pair of bill making their way through the U.S. House and Senate, SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act). Now, as a writer, I support protection for copyrights and intellectual property, and rely on such protections for my work. That said, I find several of the provisions in these Acts to be overly punitive and stifiling of speech on the internet. Other portions have been pointed out to be problematic from a technical perspective to the way the internet operates. Therefore, while I will not be blacking out ageoftheunifier.com as so many other sites are doing, I do lend my voice to theirs in opposing these ill-conceived bills, and encourage my fans to contact their legislators and urge them to vote against SOPA and PIPA.
